Hot off sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl (more than 18,000 crooners in the huge outdoor venue), Washington DC’s Kennedy Center and sites around the globe, SING-A-LONG SOUND OF MUSIC is fun for the whole family. Audience members have dressed up as everyone and, indeed everything, from the film. This includes nuns, Maria, “Girls in White Dresses with Blue Satin Sashes,” Goats (with or without Lonely Goat Herds), a range of Alps, “Brown Paper Packages Tied Up With String,” Captain Von Trapp, the Baroness, the children, and even Ray, “a drop of Golden Sun.” Dallas audiences are encouraged to search their own creative minds for even more costume ideas. The possibilities are endless. All in the name of enjoying one of everyone’s favorite movies in a whole new way.
SING-A-LONG SOUND OF MUSIC… is a screening of the classic Julie Andrews film musical in glorious full-screen Technicolor, complete with subtitles so that the whole audience can sing along! Moviegoers receive an official “fun pack,” filled with interactive props. The evening’s host, who will also lead the audience through vocal and choreographed warm-ups, will explain exactly how to use each prop in the fun pack. The host will also oversee the costume contest encouraging the audience to chime in with jeers and cheers. At each performance, the Lakewood’s full bar and award winning gourmet concessions (Including sandwiches, cheese plates, real nachos and much more).
“LET’S START AT THE VERY BEGINNING….” Despite taking a critical beating at the film’s opening in 1965, THE SOUND OF MUSIC kept movie houses filled upon its initial release (including more than 20 consecutive months at Inwood Theatre), generating a legion of lifelong fans. (We would like to encourage the audience to share their early memories of THE SOUND OF MUSIC with us.)
That year it became a runaway box-office success and swept the Academy Awards with five Oscars, including Best Picture. It easily features one of the most irresistible scores (by Rodgers and Hammerstein) in movie musical history. THE SOUND OF MUSIC is one of the most successful movie musicals of all time, and the number one family film ever! And now, this extraordinary film ushers in a new generation of film enthusiasts as the SING-A-LONG SOUND OF MUSIC - The Sound of Music – like never before!
Here’s how it works (Details may vary for the Feb. 14th, Valentines Dinner Special, See Below): When the audience arrives, they will receive “fun packs” full of little props. The evening’s host will direct them in exactly what to do with the props and the choreography sections. With subtitles added to the bottom of the screen during the songs, it makes it easy for the audience to sing along. Here’s their chance to bellow – shamelessly and loudly – about their favorite things! Singing along with Julie! Waving edelweiss! Booing at the Nazis! And especially for Valentine’s Day, kissing his or her sweetheart every time someone kisses in the film.
