The Lakewood Theater and The American Theater Organ Society of North Texas, Present:

A SILENT HALLOWEEN OCT. 28, 2001
THE EVENT: Join us, Sunday, October 28th at 7:00 & 9:00 PM when the Lakewood Theater and the American Theater Organ Society of North Texas, (ATOS) present our Annual "SILENT HALLOWEEN!".... A double feature of two original, GOULISH, Silent Classics...... "NOSFERATU" and 'THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!" ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Both films will be accompanied by the Recently Renovated, One-of-a-kind, Robert Morton Theater Pipe Organ, one of the few remaining theater pipe organs actually installed and operating in a theater. Don't miss this rare opportunity to see both of these Horror Classics the way they were seen when they made their original debut in the 1920's, as only the Lakewood Theater can! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The pipe organ will be played by master organist, Rick Mathews, of the ATOS. This is Rick's third year to accompany these films, and he has a few new tricks and treats up his sleeves! And we have a few of our own as well, with the addition, this year, of scary special effects, treats for the kiddos and a costume contest between shows with a $100 cash prize!!!! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ FILMS AND SHOW TIMES: "NOSFERATU," hits the screen at 7:00 PM, and has a run time of 75 minutes, doors open at 6pm. Black and White. Called a symphony of horror, this 1922 unauthorized production of Bram Stoker's work, written by Henrik Galeen and directed by F.W. Murnau, has enough preserved to recognize, but enough changed to be legal. Count Orlok's (played by Max Schreck) move to Bremen brings the plague traceable to his dealings with the realtor Thomas Hutter, and the Count's obsession with Hutter's wife, Ellen, the only one with the power to end the evil! Summary written by Denise Stickel ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ "THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA" screens at 9:00 PM, and has a run time of 93 minutes, doors open at approximately 8:15 PM for this show. The film is in black and white except for one dramatic scene, the masquerade ball! Written by Elliott J. Clawson and Frank M. McCormack and directed by Rupert Julian, The Phantom of The Opera is vintage silent horror! In its day, 1925, it was called the greatest horror film of modern cinema! Based on Gaston Leroux's novel, a disfigured phantom, played by Lon Chaney, terrorizes a Paris Opera house in order to get his beloved singer Christine, played by famous silent screen actress, Mary Philbin . Christine finally meets this phantom (a masked man) in the catacombs beneath the Opera House, where he lives. What is his goal? What is his secret? Summary written by Yepok ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ If you have been to these performances before, you know that the beginning can be very exciting... so ARRIVE EARLY! Besides, if you don't, you may miss some great preshow entertainment, exclusive to the Lakewood Theater. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ MEMBERS ONLY: Members receive COMPLIMENTARY tickets and RESERVED SEATING, Call us at 214-821-9084 x 4 as soon as possible or email us at general@lakewoodtheater.com to reserve your tickets.
